Tecklar Atieno, a Food and Beverage Production trainee at Akado Vocational training center is transforming her love for cooking into a meaningful career pathway. Inspired by her Home Science studies in high school, she chose to deepen her knowledge in food preparation, nutrition, and hospitality, and is determined to turn her passion into a profession. Her long-term goal is to become a nutritionist, and to use her expertise to promote healthy eating habits. She also dreams of starting her own food-related business.
Through her training, Tecklar is gaining more than culinary skills. She is building confidence, independence, and practical knowledge that will allow her to support herself and contribute meaningfully to society. She hopes to use her skills to prepare healthy meals for her family, educate her community on proper nutrition and hygiene, and model professionalism and responsibility in her work.
Tecklar believes that TVET institutions should be safe, respectful spaces where girls and women are treated equally, supported through mentorship, and given full access to learning resources without discrimination. Her encouragement to other young women is βBelieve in yourself and do not be afraid to pursue technical skills. With hard work and determination, you can build a career you are proud of.β #IWD2026 #NikosetnaTVET
